My favourite zoo
Paignton Zoo is my local, so to speak. It is situated in Torbay, Devon, England.
It is one of the best zoos I have visited. If you are British you may recall the T.V. programme "The Zoo Keepers" which was about Paignton Zoo.

Many wild animals, such as, Gorillas, chimpanzees and elephants are being killed for human consumption, this threatens the future of many endangered species.
If you would like to find out more about the effects of bushmeat trading, and to find out how you can help to stop it, please visit the Paignton Zoo website.

The grounds of the zoo are owned by The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, a registered charity which was founded after Herbert Whitleys death in 1955. It was opened to the public in 1923.
Paignton Zoo is a member of the World Zoo Organisation, a global network of zoos working together to support the conservation of species, habitats and ecosystems.

Breeding programmes are an important way in which zoos work for animal conservation. Animals in danger of extinction may be saved if healthy populations are built up in zoos. Some breeding programmes are organised on a worldwide basis, others within regions such as Europe or the UK. Paignton Zoo Keeps studbooks for hyacinth macaw, Kafue Flats lechwe and crocodilians.
